Adolescents tend to conform to the behaviors modeled by peer groups. Using very nascent network analyses connecting eighth-grade boys to peers that they esteemed/hung out with (and reciprocated this labeling in confidential data collection), authors found that those with mutual peer esteems/bonds were more likely to deviate from clothing norms (feeling comfortable enough in social regard to vary from peers?)
