Historical codes of masculinity and femininity offered restrictive fashion codes to men and elaborated fashion codes for women – encouraging different appearance and dress management practices. Currently, there is contemporary movement away from sex-segregated dress codes, toward androgyny – however, this is more so an adoption of masculine dress practices by women – though some men are increasingly using appearance management previously thought to be feminized.
